When we work on a new system, many factors are important to consider. Depending on these factors and the customer's requirements, we will start by selecting the core components. Although many systems share similarities, there's always something unique about each system. For a camper-van for example, we would usually start by determining which DC-DC or alternator charger is suitable. The build year, brand and type of the van are important factors, but also the choice of AGM or LiFePO4 as leisure batteries is very important in component selection. Then we want to know whether the vehicle will travel the world or not. The reason being that it might be useful to switch between 230V and 115V when dealing with different AC-voltages and frequencies around the world.

These days, no matter what type of solution, a system almost always contains solar power. Even big commercial systems and small vans adopt this as part of their system as it has become more affordable as well as it is often the best choice as the main off-grid energy source. Of course, alternative and additional ways of charging are important to have as well in a well functioning system.

Recently, the IoT (Internet of Things) has become a very valuable and widespread tool in off-grid systems.
